No matter where you let these trails take you, you will not be disappointed. The Rails to Trails found in Huntingdon County, near Juniata Valley, give any hiker, jogger, or biker a sense of blissfulness and a connection to nature not commonly found. In the mid 1800s this area was the original towpath for the Pennsylvania Main Line Canal. At the start of the railroad revolution, this land was purchased to lay rail for the Petersburg branch of the Pennsylvania railroad. In 1979 the rails were abandoned and in 1989 Rails to Trails bought the land to turn to trails. These trails have a very rich history, but also radiate a certainbeauty. When walking through the trails, a sense of calm can wash over you as you venture along, surrounded by the beautiful nature that only Huntingdon County can offer. I would recommend these trails to travelers and residents of the area alike.
