The Standing Stone found in Huntingdon has a very rich and fairly old history. Dating back as early as 1754, John Harris wrote about a large "Standing stone" that was erected by the Native Americans and carved with symbols that are speculated to have some spiritual importance to the local natives. By 1768 the stone was taken, presumably by the natives, and was replaced with a replica inscribed with the year "1768." Soon the stone was moved and vandalized. In the year 1896, J.C. Blair suggested a similar stone replica shall be erected in the same spot and ever since, the stone has remained unmoved. Not only is the stone a landmark representing the history of Huntingdon, but it also shows the effort and cooperation within the community to keep the same stone in its spot for over 100 years.
